Filosofi Sabuk pada Tae Kwon Do adalah sebagai berikut :

• Putih melambangkan kesucian, awal/dasar dari semua warna, permulaan.
• Kuning melambangkan bumi, disinilah muali ditanamkan dasar-dasar TKD dengan kuat.
• Hijau melambangkan hijaunya pepohonan, pada saat inilah dasar TKD mulai ditumbuhkembangkan.
• Biru melambangkan birunya langit yang menyelimuti bumi dan seisinya, memberi arti bahwa kita harus mulai mengetahui apa yang telah kita pelajari.
• Merah melambangkan matahari artinya bahwa kita mulai menjadi pedoman bagi orang lain dan mengingatkan harus dapat mengontrol setiap sikap dan tindakan kita.
• Hitam melambangkan akhir, kedalaman, kematangan dalam berlatih dan penguasaan diri kita dari takut dan kegelapan.

Perubahan warna sabuk,harus memperlihatkan perubahan menyeluruh sikap hidup kita.

History of Tae kwon do

Taekwondo yang kita kenal sekarang , mempunyai sejarah yang sangat panjang seiring dengan perjalanan sejarah Bangsa Korea , dimana beladiri ini berasal. Sebutan Taekwondo sendiri baru dikenal sejak tahun 1954, merupakan modifikasi dan penyempurnaan dari berbagai beladiri tradisional Korea.

Latar belakang sejarah perkembangan Taekwondo dpt dibagi dalam 4 kurun waktu, yaitu : Pada masa kuno, masa pertengahan , masa modern dan masa sekarang. Pada Masa Kuno

Asal Mula Taekwondo
Pada dasarnya manusia mempunyai insting untuk selalu melindungi diri dan hidupnya, hal ini secara disengaja maupun tidak akan memacu aktivitas fisiknya sepanjang waktu. Manusia dalam tumbuh dan berkembang tidak dapat lepas dari kegiatan / gerakan fisiknya , tanpa menghiraukan waktu dan tempat. Pada masa kuno manusia tidak punya pikiran lain untuk mempertahankan dirinya kecuali dengan tangan kosong, hal ini secara alamiah mengembangkan teknik - teknik bertarung dengan tangan kosong. Pada saat kemampuan bertarung secara tangan kosong dikembangkan sebagai suatu cara untuk menyerang dan bertahan, digunakan pula untuk membangun kekuatan fisik seseorang, bahkan dijadikan pertunjukan dalam acara ritual. Manusia mempelajari teknik - teknik bertarung didapat dari pengalaman nya melawan musuh - musuhnya. Inilah yang diyakini menjadi dasar seni beladiri Taekwondo yang kita kenal sekarang, dimana pada masa lampau dikenal sebagai ‘Subak” , “Taekkyon”, ” Takkyon” , maupun beberapa nama lainnya. Pada asal mula sejarah Semenanjung Korea , ada 3 suku bangsa / kerajaan yang mempertunjukan kontes seni beladiri pada acara ritualnya. Ketiga kerajaan ini saling bersaing satu sama lain, ketiganya adalah Koguryo, Paekje dan Silla, semuanya melatih para ksatria untuk dijadikan salah satu kekuatan negara, bahkan para ksatria yang tergabung dalam militer saat itu, menjadi warga negara yang mempunyai kedudukan yang sangat terpandang. Menurut catatan , kelompok ksatria muda yang terorganisir seperti ” Hwarangdo” di Silla dan “Chouisonin ” di Koguryo, semuanya menjadikan latihan seni beladiri sebagai salah satu subyek penting yang harus dipelajari. Sebuah buku tentang seni beladiri yang disebut ” Muye Dobo Tongji ” menyebutkan : ” ( Taekwondo) Seni pertarungan tangan kosong adalah dasar dari seni beladiri , yang membangun kekuatan dengan melatih tangan dan kaki hingga menyatu dengan tubuh agar dapat bergerak bebas leluasa, sehingga dapat digunakan saat menghadapi situasi yang kritis, berarti ( Taekwondo ) dapat digunakan setiap saat “.

Koguryo’s ’sonbae’ dan Taekkyon
Koguryo yang berdiri pada 57 tahun seblem masehi di semenanjung Korea bagian utara, membentuk kesatuan para ksatria tangguh yang disebut ‘Sonbae’, yang artinya laki - laki yang bersifat baik dan tak pernah takut dalam bertarung / perang . Dalam buku sejarah disebutkan bahwa saat Dinasti Chosun Kuno memerintah , tanggal 10 Maret setiap tahunnya pada hari raya Koguryo, masyarakat merayakan nya dengan acara - acara kontes tarian pedang, memanah, subak ( Taekkyon ) dan sebagainya. Kontes Subak ( Taekyon ) sebutan untuk Seni beladiri Taekwondo pada masa itu adalah salah satu kegiatan yang sangat populer. Penemuan beberapa lukisan dinding makam pada masa Koguryo, yang menggambarkan 2 orang yang saling bertarung dalam sikap Takkyon ( Taekwondo ), membuktikan bahwa seni beladiri yang sekarang kita kenal sebagai Taekwondo telah dipraktekan sejak 2000 tahun yang lalu di Semenanjung Korea. Sejarah Singkat Taekwondo Indonesia

Taekwondo mulai berkembang di Indonesia pada tahun 70-an , dimulai aliran Taekwondo yang berafiliasi ke ITF ( International Taekwondo Federation ) yang pada waktu itu bermarkas besar di Toronto Kanada, aliran ini dipimpin dan dipelopori oleh Gen. Choi Hong Hi, kemudian berkembang juga aliran Taekwondo yang berafiliasi ke WTF ( The World Taekwondo Federation ) yang berpusat di Kukkiwon, Seoul, Korea Selatan dgn Presiden Dr. Un Yong Kim.

Pada waktu itu, di Indonesia kedua aliran ini yang masing - masing mempunyai organisasi ditingkat nasional yaitu Persatuan Taekwondo Indonesia ( PTI ) yg berafiliasi ke ITF dipimpin oleh Letjen. Leo Lopolisa dan Federasi Taekwondo Indonesia ( FTI ) yg berafiliasi ke WTF dipimpin oleh Marsekal Muda Sugiri.

Atas kesepakatan bersama dan melihat prospek perkembangan didunia olahraga International dan Nasional, maka Musyawarah Nasional Taekwondo pada Tanggal 28 maret 1981 berhasil menyatukan kedua organisasi Taekwondo tersebut, menjadi organisasi baru yang disebut Taekwondo Indonesia dan dipimpin oleh Leo Lopolisa sebagai Ketua Umumnya, sedangkan struktur organisasi ditingkat nasionalnya disebut PBTI ( Pengurus Besar Taekwondo Indonesia ) dan berpusat di Jakarta. Munas Taekwondo Indonesia I pada Tanggal 17 - 18 September 1984 menetapkan Letjen. Sarwo Edhie Wibowo ( Alm. ) sebagai Ketua Umum Taekwondo Indonesia periode 1984 - 1988, maka era baru Taekwondo Indonesia yang bersatu dan kuat dimulai. Selanjutnya Taekwondo Indonesia sempat dipimpin oleh Soeweno, Harsudiyono Hartas, dan sekarang oleh Letjen ( Mar ) Suharto.
